to join our campaign to get Perez Hilton to stop bashing Rumer Willis for being “ugly”
Maybe I’m starting to sound like a broken record, but I don’t understand why the media has to be so mean to others. I’ve hit my breaking point with Perez Hilton’s constant harshness towards Rumer Willis. He is ruthless as to her looks, and he is constantly insulting her in very very cruel terms Perez Hilton on Rumer Willis .
So, I’m just wanting to point out to Perez that although his trash talk pays, the damage his “humor” is causing to Rumer and millions of others about their image, body image and worth as a human based on image is shameful. Each human puts out energy into the world that affects others, and his cruelty towards her is shameful and hurtful.
Here is Rumer in an interview, and she is articulate, quiet, and simply a young woman trying to find her identity in an extraordinary position of celebrity. We need to learn to be more kind and compassionate towards others beautiful or not!

Wow, I followed your link and he really is merciless. She isn’t the most attractive girl on the planet but geesh, get over it already.
I have seen photos of her elsewhere that are much more flattering. I didn’t realize Perez Hilton was so pointlessly cruel. Her only crime is having famous parents.

Yeah, he and so is everyone else it seems. I was ranting about this to my Mom the other day who reads celeb crap news too, and she explained it that Rumer got both the extreme features of both her parents. It just bothers me because I guess I draw the line at making fun of something a person can’t change. You know, its one thing if she is not wearing underwear and passing out in the park, then poke fun some, but she can’t change this and she is just a human being. It really bothers me.

Did you notice the automatically generated related topics, those even link to more cruelty about her looks. We need to make sure that we address why such an emphasis is put on how a woman looks, but more we need to lessen the harshness we see so prevalent in today’s media.

It’s really amazing how much, on film, she looks/sounds like her mom. It doesn’t come across as well in pictures, but she is really quite beautiful in motion. I don’t get the looks-based hatred being spewed at her AT ALL.
However, Perez Hilton is an incredibly mean person, and at the risk of sounding pessimistic, I really don’t think there’s anything that you can do to change that. Rumer just happens to be one of his targets: he’s made up his puny little mind, she’s ugly, and that’s that. Attacks just give him strength to keep on truckin’. Save your energy for other things, because Perez will not be stopped, but he WILL eventually move on to other targets. This I know.
Also, I’m sure Rumer is a strong enough young woman to handle his childish attacks. Although I’m sure support, including yours, means a lot to her.

That jerk will do what he will. I will write to his advertisers and to TV shows that book him and tell them that as long as they do business with him, they will not get mine. Perhaps if we can cut into his income, he will get the message. Obviously, he has no sense of decency or responsibility or humanity, so the only way to cripple him is to hit him in the wallet. And that’s what I am going to do. If others join in, I will LOVE it. But even if they don’t and I’m the only one boycotting him and anyone financially involved with him, this woman will know that she did her part and took a stand for responsibility and against superficiality. And so will my daughter.

Hi Literary Critic, Y
You know what, we may not be able to get him to stop but by starting up a discussion like this, we are atleast bringing awareness to the dangers negative media can have on girls and women (men as well). I never thought he would stop based on our little blog, but I did want to provide a place were solutions could be addressed on how to handle not just Perez but other harmful messages towards self-esteem. There have been some great comments on the other perez/rumer post.

It has just been that his case against Rumer was so extreme, it is a really good way to raise awareness how standards are set in society on things like self-worth, beauty, and such…..It just worries me at times that our girls have so much access to such aggressive and negative media. I sure hope our little Sweat It Out Blog: Self-Esteem can bring a healthier and more compassionate voice to our modern media lives.
