Sweat It Out: A Self-Esteem Campaign

Mischa Barton Cellulite Scandal

May 9, 2008 · No Comments

Can we write cellulite and scandal in the same sentence?  We aren’t going to post the cellulite pictures here because that seems unneccessary, but if you haven’t seen them you can find a story and link to photos here Mischa Barton Story and Photos .   She is in her early 20s, she was in a private setting and photos were taking of her that show she has some cellulite on her backside area.  Below is the comment she issues in relation to the photos. She is claiming they were photoshoped enhanced.  There are so many issues within this article, but what we are asking our readers in this post, is how are we ever going to learn to accept our bodies the way they are if we won’t accept the reality of what bodies do?

Below is a comment from Mischa Barton. In terms of self-esteem, the OSU self-esteem site suggests that to keep a healthy self-esteem, “Do NOT put yourself down. It is very difficult to raise your self-esteem if you make disparaging comments about yourself”

“I don’t care if people try to put me down. I just think it’s so sad that that’s what people spend their time doing. It might sound crazy, but I’m a really nice person. Out of my friends, I’m a very sensitive person. I’m the one everyone comes to for advice and I’m always dispensing advice so it’s funny when I get depressed, I need other people’s advice to make me happier. So if people put you down, it is what it is. I think its lame. I’m like, “Whatever, if that’s the way you want to be, but I don’t think it’s cool.” You have to try to let it roll off your shoulder. It doesn’t always. It definitely affects me. I’m not immune. It just bums me out. I think its lame. I don’t really use the internet and I never buy tabloids. I’m not much an Internet person, I’m pretty backwards in my technology skills to be honest. So no, I tend to stay away from that kind of stuff. I think it’s kind of bad for you to harp over it.” Mischa Barton comment from OK! magazine.

And here is how negative press from Perez Hilton on it is discussed.  It is important for us to see how harsh our society can be on each other.
