Sweat It Out: A Self-Esteem Campaign

Overeducated and Underpaid (or not paid)

I have been reading a lot about the slumping economy, but if that was not enough of shot to your self-esteem, then just wait 2008 college grads! Good luck finding a job! As the economy slows down, so does the hiring of new employees. With as much debt as college students are in these days, (me included) I am not surprised more of us are not out protesting, in an uproar at this. The idea about going to college is so you can get the job you really want. But the way that it is looking, graduates may have to take what they can get to start paying off that debt. Which begs the question about the worth of college and the price. I think we all know the worth, but what are we going to do about the price?

I do not think I am the only student who looses sleep over being over educated and underpaid, I do. I worry about how in the world I am going to pay off my debt and not sell my soul for a job. It not only is a huge financial burden, but a mental and emotional one as well. We look for validation of our efforts in college by gaining meaningful employment and hopefully a decent paycheck. At this rate, our generation by be, as for-casted worse off than our parents. How do you feel about this? Is this something that really influences your self-perception and confidence?
